OCETI SAKOWIN ESSENTIAL UNDERSTANDINGS

In 2015, A group of Native American Elders and Social Studies teachers came together to connect the Oceti Sakowin Essential Understandings to the Social Studies Disaggregated Standards. This product allows teachers to see where the OSEU can be taught within the context of Social Studies. Funding for this work was provided by the South Dakota Humanities Council. Future efforts to create lessons, units and pacing guides should leverage this work to ensure that both the Social Studies standards and Oceti Sakowin Essential Understandings are utilized in a culturally relevant manner.
