Vocational Education System Fund Statement


Background: The Director of the Division of Finance and Management serves as the designee for receiving monthly statements for each SDHEFA Vocational Education Program account and provides a standing report to the Board of Education at each regularly scheduled meeting.

Subject: Mitchell Technical Institute (MTI) Equipment Amendment - Tiffany Sanderson, DOE and Greg Von Wald, MTI

MTI School Board Approval – HB 1142 Amendment

Background: At the November meeting, the board approved $300,000 in equipment purchases for MTI from the equipment fund created by HB 1142 in 2014. Several purchases came in under budget; this amendment will expend the remaining funds MTI is eligible to receive.

WDT School Board Approval – HB 1142 Equipment

Background: During the 2014 SD Legislative Session, HB1142 was passed. The bill established an equipment fund for the postsecondary technical institutes and $1.5 million was transferred to the fund from the release of the postsecondary technical institutes facilities fund. Equipment purchases must be based upon priorities established by each postsecondary technical institute, approved by each postsecondary technical institute’s governing body and the Board. Approval is being requested for WDT’s proposal of $270,000.

Background: The Board established facility fees at the January 29 meeting. This proposal involves tuition, maintenance and repair and technology fees.
