2008 Indian Education Summit

The 2008 Indian Education Summit,
hosted by the Department's Office of
Indian Education, focuses on three
strands: student achievement, language
and culture, and teacher and
administrator recruitment and retention.
Registration deadline: Sept. 11, 2008
(thereafter participants will need to
register onsite Sept. 18 or 19 at the
Holiday Inn Rushmore Plaza, in Rapid
City.)
Keynote Speakers
- Governor M. Michael Rounds, State of South Dakota
- Renowned educator Harold Ott,
who served as superintendent of a
predominantly Native American
school, and led the way for sweeping
changes there.
- Dr. Clayton Small, educator at
all levels, developed strategies for
preventing suicide, substance abuse,
violence, trauma, depression &
community mobilization. He conducts
team-trust building, youth
leadership, and wellness programs
nation-wide.

Fee
Cost is $100 per
person. Paraprofessionals may register for $30.

With either of these options,
participants would need to attend the
entire workshop, 8:30 AM Sept. 18
through 2:45 PM Sept. 19.
- 1 hour renewal credit
through S.D. Department of Education
(at no cost)
- 1 hour graduate credit
through University of Sioux Falls
(cost $40.00)
