Governor Rounds’ Teacher Leadership Conference (TLC) is set for October 5-7, 2008, at the Ramkota in Pierre.

In 2008, the Governors New Teacher Academy and TLC will be combined into one event.

Invited to attend the TLC 2008 include:

• New to the profession teachers who have completed their first or second contract year (full or partial) of teaching in a South Dakota school during the 2007-2008 year;

  Preference will be given to those who have completed their first year in 2007-2008.

• Facilitating teachers who have been recognized as a SD Teacher of the Year (TOY) and/or current Regional TOY; Milken Educator; National Board Certified Teacher or current advanced candidate; Native American History Teacher of the Year; ESA selected teacher leader; and recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

Information concerning application and school district obligation will be sent to school administration prior to the end of the 2007-08 school year.

TLC 2008 Objectives:

• Gain understanding of 2010 Education Initiative progress;
• Celebrate teacher leadership accomplishments;
• Reflect on personal professional growth and the resulting influence on student achievement;
• Develop professional relationships to achieve common educational goals; and
• Participate in activities that promote educational excellence throughout the state.
