NCLB K-12 Educational Technology Standards
2009 Statewide
Assessment
Through the
No Child Left Behind Act
(ESEA Title II, Part D, Subpart 1), the Enhancing Education
Through Technology (Ed Tech) Program states are required to ensure
and report the number of 8th students which are
technologically literate by the end of eighth grade.
As a result
of both the federal legislation, South Dakota being a leader in
technology and the national trend to defined proficiency, South
Dakota has proposed and been approved by the federal government to
first implement our state’s new k-12 educational technology
standards in 07-08 then through a pilot project provide a new
statewide test to assess the technological skills of 8th
graders with 10-20 school districts.
This will
allow other districts a year to train staff in the new standards.
Then in 08-09 the new standards will be assessed at the 8th
grade level statewide.
