April workshops bring
research about effective curriculum to SD
The South Dakota
Department of Education and McREL, Denver, are partnering to offer
a set of workshops in April that will focus on key findings from research in
mathematics, science, and reading education. The events will feature
“user-friendly” activities and materials that help school and district staff
understand how to access research when making decisions about curriculum.
Information will be provided that can support materials selection, curriculum
mapping, and alignment efforts.
Materials for the
retreats will draw from research syntheses produced by McREL and other
educational research organizations. Retreat facilitators are McREL staff
members who have a variety of experience in classroom teaching, research-based
practice, and professional development. There will be two sections (K-6 and
7-12) for each subject. Registration for each section will be limited to the
first 75 participants.
McRel staff who will
facilitate the events are:
-
Mathematics: Gayle Cloke, Jodi Holzman
-
Science: Jan Tuomi, Earl Legleiter
-
Reading: Monette McIver, Jane Hill
