The Department of
Education and the NE Prevention Resource Center are asking for your input on
the location and grade level of an upcoming Life Skills workshop. If you are

As many of you know, the
SD Department of Education and the Prevention

Training, designed by Dr. Gilbert Botvin, has been designated as an exemplary
program by the US Department of Education. The curriculum has two components,
one for elementary and one for middle school. The elementary component can be
implemented in either grades 3, 4, 5 or grades 4, 5, 6. The middle school
component can be implemented in either grades 6, 7, 8, or grades 7, 8, 9. The
curriculum addresses issues related to alcohol, tobacco, other drugs,
communication, assertiveness, self-esteem, decision making, and stress.
The training is a two-day
workshop and those who attend are able to obtain college credit or teacher
renewal credit or CCBT’s. The cost for the training will be $30. The cost of
the curriculum for the participants is funded by SD Department of Education
and the SD Department of Health.
