Sioux Falls
and Rapid City will host mathematics institutes for high school teachers July
19-26. Sponsored by the Office of Curriculum, Technology and Assessment,
participants may choose from four strands: Statistics and Probability,
Geometry, South Dakota Mathematics Content Standards, and Math for Middle
School Teaching. GPS/GIS technology hits the classroom
Educators
will learn to use a GPS unit and GIS software at institutes offered by the
Office of Curriculum, Technology and Assessment. Institutes will be held in
Brookings and Box Elder.

designed to prevent substance abuse
A groundbreaking substance
abuse prevention program, LifeSkills® Training, is available to South Dakota
schools. Training sessions for teachers, school counselors, prevention
advocates and others are set for Rapid City and Brookings.
Workshop encourages
health career exploration
A one-day training session
will provide tools for implementing a comprehensive health career exploration
program. The session is slated for June 22 at the Mitchell Technical
Institute.

Strategies for teaching
integrated curriculums will be the focus of workshops held Aug. 2, 5 and 6 at
the Ramkota RiverCentre in Pierre.
SDACTE to hold summer
conference Topics such as bullying
and school violence will be addressed at the South Dakota Association of
Career and Technical Education’s summer conference. The event will be held
Aug. 2-5 at the Ramkota RiverCentre in Pierre.

history focus of Teachers Institute
Discover “A River of Many
Peoples” July 18-24 at a summer institute for teachers. Held on the University
of South Dakota campus in
Vermillion, the institute will incorporate elements of anthropology,
archaeology, history and law.
Festival of Books
celebrates reading, writing
Downtown Sioux Falls will be the
site of the Second Annual South Dakota Festival of Books, Aug. 27-29.
Activities include book readings by authors, storytelling, storybook
characters and book-related crafts.
