Amber Alert emails available; provide details when child is abducted

SD citizens, including school personnel, may sign up via an online website to receive Amber Alert emails.  The Amber Alert system is activated when a child is abducted.  The emails provide information about the child, suspects, and vehicles.  The purpose is to alert citizens who can help law enforcement by being alert and calling in sightings.  The emails include a phone number that can be used to report information.

The South Dakota Amber Alert system is tested quarterly by sending out a “test” email to all participants.  Citizens can sign up to receive the emails; they can also use the same online site to stop receiving Amber Alert communications at any time.

The website is located at http://www.state.sd.us/amberalert/ .  The link to sign up for notifications or remove your name from the listserver is reached by clicking on the word “here” in the last sentence on the page.
