Five school health
workshops set for summer; training available on request
Five workshops will be offered by the
Coordinated School Health program, a collaborative effort between the SD
Departments of Education and Health, during the summer months. In addition,
schools may contact the program regarding
special training needs; personnel will look for ways to assist schools with
their requests. A minimum of 60 days prior notice is necessary for
special-request training.
Descriptions of the five events planned for summer and fall
are:
Developing the
Health Literate Child-Health Education Standards and Assessment Training*
Critical thinkers, responsible citizens, self-directed
learners and effective communicators: these are all characteristics of a
health literate child. Learn how to develop these characteristics in your
K-12 students by using the SD Health Education Standards. During 4-hour and
6-hour workshops, participants will learn about standards implementation. In
the 15-hour course, participants will also see the importance of aligning
standards, assessment, and instructional activities as well as differentiating
between assessment for the purpose of accountability and assessment for the
purpose of instructional improvement.
