Call 511 for road reports. The South Dakota Department of Transportation (DOT) operates the 511 system, which is a free service that people can call to get updated weather reports, road conditions and forecasts. DOT has 511 brochures available for schools to distribute to students and families in bulk. Prepare now. Winter Weather Preparedness Week is Oct. 24-28. South Dakota’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has a winter weather preparedness handbook available online at www.oem.sd.gov.
