Grant Writing Terms and Acronyms

  • Grantee - The receiver of a grant.
  • Grantor - The giver of a grant.
  • Grantsmanship – Skill in receiving grants.
  • Discretionary Grants – competitive grants.
  • Formula Grants – grants sent directly to states to distribute according to the formula (ex. Title I). Also known as “Flow through dollars”.
  • Subgrants – Grants made from a larger grant
  • LEA – Local Education Agency
  • SEA – State Education Agency
  • RFP – Request for Proposal
  • RFA – Request for Application
