If a South Dakota public school district would like to receive funding to handle mentoring locally, the district must complete the following requirements:
- Mentors must participate in the SD Mentor Professional Learning Community as outlined in the mentor requirements.
- Inform the state of mentor/teacher assignments
- Mentors meet with new teachers for at least 34 hours throughout the school year
- Participating teachers and their mentors attend the Summer Academy
Districts that choose this option will receive state funds for mentoring directly. District-run mentoring programs will be funded based upon remaining statewide mentoring program dollars.
