Teaching assignments outside major areas of academic
preparation require the following minimum preparation: (12) Eighteen semester hours for a high school teacher of the following disciplines: (c) Nonvocational business education; [Transcript analysis of course prefix and title determines whether courses can apply towards the required hours. Economics counts but coursework in all areas of business education taught at the secondary level is encouraged.] 24:02:03:27. Requirements for office occupation teacher endorsement The requirements for the office occupation teacher endorsement are as follows: (1) A bachelor's degree from an approved four-year college or university with a major in business education; (2) A secondary teacher certificate; (3) At least one year or 2,000 hours of work experience in an office occupation; and (4) A minimum of 6 semester hours of college credit in the vocational education field including a course in philosophy of vocational education and a teaching methods course in vocational business and office education. [The Office Occupations endorsement "vocationaled" a nonvocational business education degree/certification but was not available for the 18 hour nonvocational business endorsement.] |

endorsement program. A 7-12 business education
endorsement program requires 18 semester hours in
business, with at least six in upper division
coursework, to include methodology, accounting, business
law, career development, communications, computation,
economics and personal finance, entrepreneurship
education, information systems, international business,
management, marketing and interrelationships of business
functions, national policies, ethics and political
thinking, office technology, and a business-related
occupational work-based practicum. *Separate courses in each topic are not required and one course may address more than one topic. All coursework must be completed with a grade of "C" or higher at an accredited postsecondary institution. Prior approval is required for courses from community college or postsecondary vocational schools. The practicum must be at least 45 clock hours/one semester credit. 24:16:08:21. 7-12 vocational-technical education endorsement programs. A 7-12 vocational-technical education endorsement program for business, marketing, and occupational home economics requires completion of the appropriate program or endorsement program requirements, 2,000 hours of occupational work experience in the last five years in the appropriate area, and completion of requirements in §24:16:08:20 (2): [This "vocationalizes" a nonvocational business teacher education program..] (2) Completion of coursework, mentorship program, or combination of both which ensures that the candidate has knowledge of and experience in the following: (a) History and philosophy of vocational-technical education; (b) Authentic assessment; (c) Organization and coordination of cooperative educational programs; and (d) Vocational-technical curriculum construction and delivery. A 7-12 Business Education Endorsement Program may be added to a 5-8 Middle Level, 7-12 secondary, and K-12 Education Certificate. |
