Renewal Teacher Certification

All educators need to submit:

  • Completed application
  • Non-refundable application fee (check, money order, or online credit card)
  • Conduct Review
  • Praxis II test scores (if applicable)

Educators holding a bachelor’s degree need to submit:

  • $30 fee
  • Verification of 6 credits in an area related to your preparation
    • Three of these six (or five of nine quarter credits) must be college transcripted.
    • The remaining three credits can be any combination of the following:
      • Credit hours recognized on an official college transcript; or
      • Renewal credits approved by the Department of Education; or
      • Continuing education units (CEUs).

**DOE renewal credits and/or CEUs in excess of three hours that were earned PRIOR to January 1, 2004, will be accepted, however, all remaining hours must be college transcripted.  Here is the administrative rule that was updated to reflect these changes: Renewal Process Rule.

Educators holding an advanced degree (master’s, doctorate, specialist, or National Board Certification) need to submit:

  • $30 fee
  • Verification of 6 credits in an area related to your preparation.  Credits can be any combination of CEUs, Renewal Credits, or transcripted credits.

Ten-year certificate:

  • Educators who received their advanced degree between October 2000 and March 2006 and are requesting a one-time ten-year certificate need to submit:
    • $20 fee
    • Transcripts verifying completion of advanced degree
  • Educators who received their advanced degree since March 2006 and are requesting a one-time ten-year certificate need to submit:
    • $50 fee
    • Transcripts verifying completion of advanced degree

Educators with a lapsed certificate need to submit:

  • $30 fee
  • Official college transcripts verifying completion of six semester hours or nine quarter hours of credit within the five-year period immediately preceding application

Other Applicants need to submit:

  • $15 fee
Applicants who do not meet any of the above requirements may be issued a one-year certificate, allowing them time to complete the necessary requirements.
