Performance Series (DACS)

Performance Series is commonly referred to in South Dakota as DACS (Dakota Assessment of Content Standards) and is available to all schools in South Dakota at no charge. It is an online, computer diagnostic exam that helps teachers quickly pinpoint the proficiency level of students. The subject areas that can be assessed in Performance Series are math and reading (grades 2-10) and science and language arts (grades 2-8). The test items within a Performance Series test are aligned to the South Dakota content standards.

The online test in Performance Series automatically adjusts to each student’s ability level, generating more difficult questions if the student is answering correctly and easier ones if the student is answering incorrectly. Students do not spend unnecessary time on questions that are too difficult—they spend more time learning! The result from a PS test is a ‘scaled score’. The scaled score can be used to measure academic growth and can be measured across time. Teachers are able to develop individualized learning plans for students based on their particular needs.
