Overview: No one will argue that the
building principal plays a crucial role in meeting the federal
expectations behind NCLB. The ability of building level leadership to
effectively meet these standards are tied directly to their own
professional development in the areas of: beliefs, mission, vision, and
school culture/climate; successful integration of these parts + data +
professional development; program development and evaluation for schools
with a growing number of predominant number of Hispanic students;
special education and the high school learner – how do we move them
toward higher standards; and the underachieving student – this may be
the gifted learner, the average student that isn’t motivated, or the
student that typically “falls through the crack”.
Each program will be connected through a common framework that begins
with examining the beliefs around the topic and ending with the
research-based impact of student opportunities and results. Each program
will focus on “how to do it” and will give administrators practical
experience in a training format. These programs will require reflection
on tough issues, an examination of beliefs, a questioning spirit, and a
willingness to realize that a good school CAN become a great school –
but not without having some tough dialogue and conversations.
