Description: The focus is on developing a framework, practices and strategies for using technology to improve literacy, both print and digital.

This Course is designed to enable you to:

  • Understand digital literacy
  • Construct a framework of digital literacy
  • Understand issues of integrating digital literacy into instruction and assessment
  • Understand methods of integrating digital literacy in instruction and assessment

Modules:

Module 1: Constructing a Print and Digital Literacy to Learn, Research-Based Framework
This module stresses to educators the importance of helping students gain the digital literacy skills needed to be successful in today's technological, visual world.

Module 2: Integrating Instruction and Assessment in a Print-Digital Classroom Culture
This module focuses on helping educators create a more dynamic and interactive learning environment by including 21st Century Skills into instruction and assessment.

Module 3: Reading in a Print-Digital Literacy Classroom Culture
This module will discuss the importance of helping students learn to read print and electronic formats as well as to evaluate the source and purpose of that information.

Module 4: Writing in a Print-Digital Classroom
This module will feature technology tools that can assist students with the writing process.

Module 5: Structuring Discussion as a Tool for Learning in a Print-Digital Literacy Classroom Culture
This module features various forms of classroom discussion, both traditional and online.

Module 6: Designing Inquiry-Based Learning with Print and Digital Literacies
This module explains how inquiry-based learning can help students become involved in their learning process.

Module 7: Making Thinking Visible in a Print and Digital Literacy Classroom Culture
This module will describe the significance of visual literacy and explore how students' thinking can be expressed visually.

Module 8: Respecting Intellectual Property in a Print-Digital Literacy Classroom Culture
This module focuses features intellectual property, copyright laws, and the fair use exemption as it applies to teaching and learning.

Module 9: Reaching Diverse Learners with Print and Digital Literacy
This module will introduce participants to the process of differentiation in order to meet the needs of diverse learners.

Module 10: Involving Parents and the Community in a Print-Digital Literacy Classroom Culture
This module will explore various approaches to strengthen home and community connections.
