Description:  This series will build on last year’s series on improving paraprofessional knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics.  The focus of this series will be providing support to the teacher by facilitating student learning during small group instruction, applying reading comprehension strategies and content area vocabulary development.  Additionally, the paraprofessional will understand the four key elements of reading fluency and explore effective writing instruction.  As required by No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, research-based content will be illustrated in strategies demonstrated within each program.  Evidence for best practice illustrations will be drawn from established educational organizations.

The format will include dynamic pedagogical explanations of current research and implementation strategies and ideas, supported through the use of modeling, handouts, examples, displays, and video clips.  Supporting documentation for the theoretical discussions will be made available within the program descriptions.
