Overview: Discovering and creating patterns lead students to communicate their own ideas and to clarify their thinking about mathematical topics in all strands. Recognizing and describing the rule of patterns in words is the basis for using variables in expressions and number sentences. Finding a pattern is a powerful problem solving strategy. Patterns help students understand and enjoy the strands of mathematics. This session will focus on using patterns in a variety of sources to develop understanding, number sense, and skills.
