Description:
Create
a Color Splat book, an abstract painting and a snowy scene. Learn
color mixing, wet-on-wet, dry brush and painting with salt.
Students will make a color wheel to keep and use as they learn more
about color. Ideal for ages 4th-6th grades.
Teacher’s packet will include a master
copy of the color wheel and color splat template. Schools will need
to supply watercolor paper, masking tape and watercolor paints
(Prang or Crayola non-washable if possible)
First Session:
- Introduction and
color mixing demo
- Demonstrate the color
wheel
- Demonstrate the Color
Splat Book and creation of colors using blending and mixing
- Demonstrate a snow
landscape with wet-on-wet, dry brush, salt technique, wash
technique.
- Demonstrate a Matisse
painting with the above techniques.
Second Session:
- Color mixing
demonstration with tempera paint.
- Looking at famous
artwork.
- Share time: each
school shows 1 example each of the projects they worked on in
class.

Closing
Visual Art Content Standards:
- Students will
understand and use arts as a means for creative self expression
and interpersonal communication.
- Students will
understand the media techniques and processes used in the
production of visual arts.
- Students will
understand the relationship between the visual arts and history,
culture and society.
(NOTE:
Each site must audio mute upon connecting to the session to prevent
voice activated moving of the cameras from site to site.)
