Pumpkin, Pumpkin
Included here are hands-on math activities for the students to
enjoy.
Graphing
Our Favorite Apples
In this technology-integrated lesson, students are introduced to
graphing using Graph Club software. Students work in whole groups or
independently as they create an Apple Tasting Graph.
Estimating
with Pumpkin Seeds
This is a lesson plan which includes estimating how many seeds
there are in a pumpkin and them carving the pumpkin and actually counting
the seeds that are found inside of it.
Apple
Estimation
In this practical activity based on percentages, students use
estimation, calculation of percentages and subjective-reasoning skills to
determine the weight and edibility of apples.
Measuring
Up with Apples
The students use an apple as a non-standard measuring tool to
estimate and measure certain objects.
Pumpkin Pie
For All
Let's make pumpkin pie for the whole class! Imagine making enough
pie so that everyone could have a piece. How about enough pie to take one
home? The only problem is that the recipe you have makes 1 pie at a time
that only has 8 pieces.
Apple Crisp
In this lesson, students will demonstrate the practical use of
fractions in creating a culinary project.
