The Cowboy Culture
Pointy boots, ten-gallon hats, blue-jeans -- for cowboys, these
aren't just fashion statements. The cowboy's boot is designed to fit well
in the stirrup. The cowboy's wide-brimmed hat is designed to shield the
cowboy's eyes from sun and rain. And, finally, the cowboy's jeans are
purposefully designed without rivets on the back-pockets to avoid saddle
scratches. Learn more about cowboys, their Texan/Mexican heritage and how
you can experience their culture today.

People of the West

Roosevelt, Brigham Young and
Sacagawea made decisions and performed actions that permanently shaped the
culture, spirit and politics of the United States. Learn more about these
legends.
See,
Hear, and Sing: Buckaroos
From this page, part of the "See, Hear and Sing" section
of the America's Story website, users can access information about the
history and culture of America's buckaroos. Learn about the process
of "sorting" the herd, watch video footage of a roundup, and
find out how cows are branded.
Rodeo
Rodeo is not just a sport; it's a way of life. Most rodeos consist
of various competitions such as barrel racing, saddle-bronco riding,
bareback-bronco riding, calf roping and steer wrestling. Perhaps the most
dangerous activities, however, are those performed by the rodeo clowns.
These clowns are very serious about protecting competitors from serious
injury or death caused by angry bulls. Yeeha, cowboy!
Blanco
County Rodeo

bumping up against the fence, and you hear bones crunch when these poor
guys fall off the horses." Listen and read about a small rodeo in the
heart of Texas.
