"You Can't Catch Me!"-Introducing Young Children to the School Setting
Here are some very fun lesson ideas using a gingerbread man to help your students become familiar with their school.

The Kissing Hand
There are many lessons and activities to use after reading The Kissing Hand to your class.

Dear Me
This lesson plan is easy and the students love it. The first day of school is tough and this gets the students talking, sharing and writing. The students will be writing a letter to themselves and they will open it in June, on the last day of school.

Students will learn to communicate non-verbally, by learning sign language, lowering the noise level in the classroom.

Beginning of the Year Review
This lesson could be used for ANY subject area being taught the first few days of school.

Language Arts
Several excellent writing lessons that can be used when you go back to school are located here.

The Self
Here are lesson ideas to teach the concept of Self. This unit is ideal for enabling middle grade (6-9) students to examine their personal identity, their relationships with others, and factors which influence them on personal and social levels both in the present and the future.

Back to School Lesson
Students will be given an opportunity to evaluate two poems based on decisions and outcomes and to evaluate the choices they will make regarding their education in the coming year.

Getting To Know Each Other Through Poetry
In this lesson, students will get to know each other through a poetry writing activity.
