Mapping Software
Curriculum
mapping is a calendar-based (monthly) process for collecting and
maintaining an on-going data base of the operational curriculum in a
school, and/or a district.
The South Dakota Department of Education (SD DOE) has negotiated a
contract with TechPaths: A Curriculum Mapping System. TechPaths
(http://www.techpaths.com/techpaths.asp)
is a powerful, user-friendly tool for aligning standards with curriculum
maps. The TechPaths system utilizes exclusive templates--embedded in the
software--for the design of lessons, assessments, and units. This
provides searchable libraries of maps and the associated curriculum
design work. The software is available to all K-12 South Dakota schools
on a cost-share basis wherein the state will fund two-thirds of the
per-user fees for the sub-license agreement. Approximate costs for
school districts are $14 per user. If you desire to
participate using TechPaths, download the
Memorandum of Understanding
(MOU) and send two signed copies to:

South Dakota DOE is using the work of Dr. Heidi
Hayes Jacobs to guide the curriculum mapping work in the state. Her book,
Mapping the Big Picture:
Integrating Curriculum and Assessment K–12 (1997) provides an
overview of the process.
