Gov. Rounds to announce $14.5 million grant award for NCLB “Reading First” program

Pierre - Gov. Mike Rounds will hold a news conference on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. from Laura B. Anderson Elementary School in Sioux Falls to announce that the South Dakota Dept. of Education has been awarded $14.5 million over six years to integrate Reading First with its statewide infrastructure for improvement of early literacy.   

The grant money will be used to help schools implement research-based reading programs for students in kindergarten through third grade and to provide professional development to ensure that all teachers have the skill they need to teach these programs effectively.

Laura B. Anderson School is located at 1600 N. Wayland Ave. in Sioux Falls.
