Career Guidance Programs
Comprehensive guidance and counseling programs directed
at providing students career awareness, career exploration and career
decision-making skills must be an integral part of each student’s
educational experience. It is this kind of experience that will help the
students to learn, think, consider and make realistic decisions about
their future opportunities.
Providing these essential guidance and counseling
services becomes dependent on the qualifications, experience and
background of the counselors of our state. The state Coordinator of Career
Guidance programs is committed to developing and improving the career
counseling skills of all school counselors in South Dakota.
The state Coordinator of Career Guidance programs will:
- direct the development and implementation of the
South Dakota Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Program Model.

knowledge and appreciation of the world of work and vocational
technical education in South Dakota.

guidance programs.

secondary/postsecondary programs to increase their knowledge and
skills in career counseling, and knowledge of labor market trends.
