Program Improvement and Accountability
The Program Improvement Process (PIP)
provides career and technical education programs in South Dakota with a
self evaluation to determine where the programs are and where they would
like to be. As part of the process, teachers and advisory committees
determine three to five goals to guide them in the improvement
process. The PIP assists programs in meeting state and federal
requirements and is required for career and technical education programs
to achieve “Approved Program” status which makes them eligible for
federal funding .
Perkins Accountability refers to
the Core Indicators of Performance outlined in the Perkins
legislation. South Dakota also calls the Indicators the "Standards
and Measures." The Core Indicators provide a way for programs to
"measure" themselves against negotiated levels of
performance. Programs use the data results to aid them in
determining program improvement goals and Perkins budget requests.
