Dr. Keith Polette  is the Director of the English Education program at the University of Texas at El Paso. In his more than 23 years as a practicing educator, he has taught at the University level and in public schools, where he taught both remedial and advanced classes. A specialist in children’s and young adult literacy (with a background in English and Drama), Keith presents cutting-edge strategies that bring the magic of teaching reading and writing to life!

Keith is constantly sought-after as a featured speaker and is a nationally recognized K-12 literacy consultant and popular author. His works include four children’s books, Isabel and the Hungry Coyote, Paco and the Giant Chile Plant, Moon over the Mountain (Raven Tree Press), and The Winter Duckling (Milliken), an International Reading Association’s Children’s Choice Award winner. In addition, he’s also written Teaching Grammar through Writing and Read and Write It Out Loud (Allyn & Bacon), Spoofing and Proofing the Classics (Teachers Ideas Press), and Look Out! Letters Alive (Pieces of Learning).
 

Erik Szabo is the President and Founder of Board Games Express, the world's largest specialty board game store. Known by many as "The Game Guy", Erik is one of the nation's leading board game experts. He has played over 5,000 different games and he has been used as a resource in many game articles and documentaries. Since 2004, Erik has been traveling the country showing child care providers and educators how to "do games" better. Erik is an energetic, dynamic and thought-provoking speaker... one you certainly will not quickly forget.

Credit

  • One CEU credit is available.
  • One hour of college credit is available from Northern State University for $43.50.

Cost

Conference is free to 21st CCLC directors, staff and volunteers. For others a $50 registration fee must accompany registration form. Checks should be made payable to the S.D. Department of Education (S.D. DOE) Registration includes two breakfasts, one dinner and two lunches.

Lodging

Registrants are responsible for their own housing arrangements. Blocks of rooms reserved under 21st CCLC Conference are available at the following Pierre hotels until 30 days before conference. Each are $46.50 + tax.
