Free Screening
FREE Screenings Available for Children Under 3 Years of Age.
As a parent, you may wonder if your infant or toddler
is learning and growing in the way you expect.
Areas to think about are:
- movement: rolls over, crawls, walks
- language: coos, babbles, imitates
others
- behavior and social growth: plays
well with others, tries to feed and dress self
- physical growth: meets guidelines
for height, weight, hearing and vision
If you would like to learn more about your child’s
growth, call 1-800-305-3064
to find someone in your area to talk to about your concerns.
Your infant or toddler’s growth can be screened free of charge. Screenings will identify concerns for children up to 3
years of age.
What is a screening?
A screening is a quick look at how your child is learning and growing.
Different kinds of tests and questions will be used to learn how to best
help your child. The areas which may be examined are the development of
your child’s body (including sight and hearing), thinking and language
skills, self-help skills and emotional growth. The tests and questions
will be given in the language you and your family use at home. The results
of the screening will be seen by you, the person doing the screening and
the service coordinator. The results will be discussed within five days of
the time the screening is completed. At this point, the following
decisions may be made:
- your child’s development is fine at this point;
- another screening will be scheduled in several months;
- a referral to other helpful sources will be made; or
- your child’s development should be looked at more closely
(evaluation).
