USDA's Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) provides students with fresh fruits and vegetables throughout the school day along with nutrition education. 10 schools on the Pine Ridge Reservation along with 25 schools statewide (beginning in the 08-09 school year) participate in South Dakota. Administered at the state level by Child & Adult Nutrition Services - the same agency that administers the National School Lunch Program (NSLP)--the FFVP began in 2004. Legislation in 2008 expanded the program to schools not previously authorized to participate in the program.

Resources

  • Banana Grams - You can add your own school or group name to them, print these out on labels, and attach it to fresh fruit skins or boxes of dried fruit to help promote healthy choices.
