Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)

The Child and Adult Nutrition Services (CANS) office is excited to announce the “CACFP Basic” and the third annual “CACFP Plus!” training workshops.

“CACFP Basic Training” is suggested for new agencies in the CACFP or new staff working with the CACFP within your agency. This is not a workshop intended for “veteran” employees that have recently attended a CACFP workshop. This workshop provides very basic training in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (for both administrative and food service staff). This training session is a chance to gain information that is needed to operate the CACFP and is free of charge. Registration is limited to 25 people per session.

“CACFP Plus! Training” is suggested for agencies that have CACFP staff that just need a review of the requirements to meet the annual training requirement but do not need an in-depth training on the topics. This is a workshop that includes all of the required CACFP annual training topics.

You can review the agenda for each workshop (CACFP Basic or CACFP Plus!) and a Registration Form (use the same form for both workshops). You must complete and return the registration form to the appropriate address or fax to register attendees for the workshop. We will mail a confirmation, specific information, and directions to the sites to the person listed as the contact person on the registration form. If a contact person is not listed we will send this information to the Authorized Representative.

The dates and locations of the CACFP Plus! training are as follows:

  • May 7 - Rapid City - Youth & Family Services

  • May 20 - Pierre - Kneip Building

  • May 27 - Sioux Falls -  Augustana College

  • June 3 - Aberdeen - Aberdeen Catholic Schools

  • June 4 - Watertown - Lake Area Technical Institute

The dates and locations of the CACFP Basic training are as follows:

  • May 6 - Rapid City - Youth & Family Services

  • May 28 - Sioux Falls - Sioux Falls School District

  • July 29 - Pierre - Capital Lake Visitor’s Center

The registration form must be completed and returned no later than 20 days prior to the date of the workshop you plan to attend. We will accept forms by mail, fax, or email to Melissa.Halling@state.sd.us. You can request an electronic registration form by emailing Shar.Venjohn@state.sd.us or the form is located on our website (listed below). We will accept registrations received after the 20-day deadline only if there is space available. You will receive confirmation of your registration by mail. If you believe you have registered but do not receive a confirmation letter at least one week prior to the workshop, please contact us immediately.

This facility is physically accessible. Handicapped parking is available; please contact the above number for specific location of handicapped parking at the site you will be attending. Individuals with disabilities must notify our office at least two weeks prior to the workshop if you have any special needs for which we will need to make arrangements. The telephone number for making special arrangements is (605) 773-3413.
