TIDBITS FROM SANDRA

Dreams of spring and flowers and rain are beginning to dance in our heads instead of visions of sugar plums.  Gardeners are paging through the seed catalogs and getting those little pots ready to start plants for later transplanting.  Students are beginning to count days left of school.  This time of year we are thinking about beginnings and endings.  It doesn’t have to end!  Has your school considered Summer Food Service Program?  It is an opportunity to provide meals to children when school is not in session.  Some schools also offer outside school time programs that summer food service can be a part of as well as offering meals to the traditional summer school programs.

The learning continues, also, with the certification institute and back-to-school conference in late summer.  Consider attending the Annual National Conference for American School Food Service Association.  It’s an experience you’ll always remember.  It will be held July 20-23, 2003 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in Reno , Nev.   “Hit the Jackpot with Child Nutrition” is the theme.  You can check it out at  http://www.asfsa.org   You do not have to be a member to look at many of the sections of that website.  The conference is listed under “meeting and events.”
