Child Nutrition Reauthorization and Healthy Choices

Child Nutrition Programs are currently in the process of reauthorization.  Agriculture Secretary Ann Veneman and her leadership team have stated that the Department’s reauthorization plans include incentives for schools that support a healthy school environment.

 “It will be up to the individual school, still a local decision, but if the school supports healthy alternatives for students, that choice could result in additional funds,” said Veneman at the first National Nutrition Education Conference in Washington , DC .  Senior staff members said the same thing at the American School Food Service Association’s Legislative Action Conference in early March.
