October 13 - 17, 2003, is National School Lunch Week

The national theme this year is “Wild About School Lunch”.  National School Lunch Week (NSLW) is the perfect time to draw positive attention to school meals and to work creatively with teachers and others in the community.  This year’s theme is sure to make your school district’s observation of NSLW a roaring success!

NSLW promotional booklets were distributed to all schools that stopped by the Child and Adult Nutrition Services (CANS) booth at the July fall conference in Sioux Falls.  The promotional booklet was mailed to the food service director for schools that did not attend the conference.  Be sure to look through the booklet early so various pages can be shared with appropriate school staff in order that they can work together as a team to successfully promote school meals.

The April 2003 issue of the School Foodservice and Nutrition magazine features selected menus and recipes to use during the NSLW.  Visit the American School Food Service Association on the web at www.asfsa.org for further planning information.

CANS encourages you to submit pictures or recipes to the Nutrition Bulletin or the School Foodservice and Nutrition magazine.  It is always interesting to see what others are doing.
