Building for the Future Awards for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)

We are pleased to announce the solicitation of nominations for the 2004 Building for the Future Awards.  The Awards will recognize outstanding state agency and sponsoring organization practices that go beyond basic regulatory requirements leading to highly efficient, effective and accessible nutrition programs.  Winners will be announced at the biennial conference of the CACFP National Professionals Association in Madison, WI in April of 2004.

USDA expects to make one State agency award and one sponsoring organization award in each category listed below.  Each application must address one of the following areas (for applicants who wish to be considered for more than one area, multiple applications may be submitted):

A.     Enhancing Program Efficiency Through Technology

B.     Innovative Training and Technical Assistance

C.    Outreach and Community Partnerships

D.    Program Integrity

E.     Nutrition Education and Promotion

Don’t be afraid to ‘toot your own horn”!  Sponsors of child care centers or day care homes must submit nominations to the state agency.  The state agency will then review the applications and forward them to the regional office.  The application, entry form with complete instructions and an explanation of the evaluation criteria were mailed to your local agency in December.  Should you have any questions, please contact Melissa Halling at (605) 773-3566.

NOMINATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED IN THE STATE OFFICE

BY 5 PM ON JANUARY 23, 2004.
