2008 Child Nutrition Institute

Quick Links

Make plans to attend the 44th annual Child Nutrition Institute in Sioux Falls at Augustana College on June 22-27, 2008. This year’s theme is “Jump into Good Nutrition.” Hundreds of foodservice professionals will participate in weeklong activities that provide up to date information and skills that are essential in running the day to day operations of a foodservice operation. Lots of networking opportunities allow you to build a vast networking community--and who knows better what you go through day in and day out than other foodservice professionals!

As in past years, participants may sign up for Tracks 1-6 or the Practical Computer Skills Track. A Baking class has been offered in previous years, but will not be offered this year. We have decided to review the curriculum to ensure the needs of the class and the products that are produced best reflect the whole grain trend that child nutrition staffs face daily. Track 1 must be completed before any other tracks (except Practical Computer Skills) can be taken. Tracks are best taken in order, however, once you finish Track 1, you may take either Track 2 or Track 3 in the order you choose. Once Track 1-3 are completed, you continue with Track 4. Once completing Track 4 you are able to take Track 5 or 6…again, in either order that you choose. To see a description of each Track, click on Track Descriptions in the Quick Links box located in the middle of this page.

In addition, the Quick Links box gives you all the information you need to sign up to attend Child Nutrition Institute. Don’t miss this year’s Institute…join us as we “Jump Into Good Nutrition.”

Online Registration Trouble Shooting Tips

Q:  I am unable to open the link to the directions or the descriptions of the tracks. What should I do?
A:  If you are using a computer at your school, it may have restrictions or limitations of what it is able to perform.  You might want to either consult with your school's tech person to see if they can change the settings on your computer OR print the instructions and descriptions from the Child Nutrition Institute homepage  http://doe.sd.gov/oess/cans/training/institute/index.asp and have them beside you when you complete the online registration.

Q:  What if I am unable to type any characters into the email address box.
A.  Be sure to check the box that yes, you have an email address.  If after checking the box, you are still unable to type any characters into the email address box, this is due to limitations of your computer.  If you are using a school computer, you may want to consult with your school's tech person who may be able to adjust the settings on your computer OR you may want to complete the paper registration form and mail it to us instead of completing the online version.

For other technical problems, please call the CANS office at 773-3413.
