Education Standards and Assessment II –
Searchable Database CD/Web-based Assessment
System
January 14-15, 2008, Performance Data Center,
Pierre, SD
Coordinated School Health in the Department’s of
Education and Health is seeking elementary,
middle school and/or high school teachers,
responsible for Health Education in his/her
school district, to participate in the pilot
training for Standards and Assessment II –
Searchable Database CD/Web-based Assessment
System.
Participants in this training must have taken
the South Dakota Health Education Standards
and Assessment I training and/or the
Health Methods for the Elementary Teacher
through Black Hills State University. This
initial training provided participants with an
introduction to classroom instruction and
assessment techniques designed to increase
health literacy in our schools. The Standards
and Assessment II training is the next step to
increasing participants’ assessment capabilities
of their health programs.
This 15 hour follow-up training will be held
January 14-15, 2008, at the Performance Data
Center, 200 West Pleasant Drive, Pierre, SD.
The training is designed to give teachers
specific knowledge, skills, competencies and
techniques in using assessment as motivation for
learning as well as assessment of learning. For

Aligning Health and Reading with A HEAP of Books
January 10-11, 2008, Best Western Ramkota,
Aberdeen, SD
You know how important health education is for
your students. But it is no secret that there
just isn’t enough time for it. The Aligning
Health and Reading with a HEAP of Books
training is the practical solution for
elementary and secondary teachers, school
counselors, nurses and many others for getting
it all done in the little time you have.
The Aligning Health and Reading with a HEAP
of Books training is designed to help
teachers make connections between the health
knowledge and skills their students should
achieve in order to become health literate and
the books they integrate into their daily
lessons on reading and writing.
The training will be held at the Best Western
Ramkota, 1400 8th Avenue NW,
Aberdeen, SD from 8:30- 4:00 p.m. on January
10-11, 2008. Participants will be eligible to
receive one graduate credit through Black Hills
State University for $40.00 and one Department
of Education Teacher Renewal Credit at no
charge. Participants may also take the course
for no credit.
