Team Nutrition mini-grants deadline December 20th

Mini-grants are available for school gardens, fun fruit and vegetable events, and registered dietician assistance for schools. Applications must be postmarked by December 20th. http://doe.sd.gov/oess/cans/nutrition/grants.asp.

Physical Activity and Nutrition Grants Awarded

A total of $70,000 is being award to the following K-12 school districts, community organizations, out of school programs (OST) and/or post secondary institutions. Monies are available from the Maternal and Child Health Block fund and a recent one-year grant from the National Governors Association. The grants range from $1000.00 to $5000.00. Grant activities will improve the policy and environment around nutrition and physical activity.

  • Belle Fourche Area Community Center; Belle Fourche, SD
  • Howard School District
  • Gayville-Volin School District; Gayville, SD
  • Vermillion Public School OST; Vermillion, SD
  • Volunteers of America; Sioux Falls, SD
  • Rapid City School District; Rapid City, SD
  • Eureka Public School; Eureka, SD
  • Youth and Family Services; Rapid City, SD
  • Belle Fourche School District; Belle Fourche, SD
  • DeSmet School District; DeSmet, SD
  • Loving School-Sioux Falls Children's Home; Sioux Falls, SD
  • Hoven School District; Hoven, SD
  • FrederickAre School District; Frederick, SD
  • LSS Canyon Hills Center; Spearfish, SD
  • Hawthorne Elementary School; Sioux Falls, SD
  • The Jungle OST Program; Huron, SD

Department of Health Provides Tobacco Prevention Funding to Schools

Fifty-five K-12 school districts are the recipients of grants totaling nearly $460,000 from the South Dakota Department of Health to combat tobacco use. The funding is aimed at helping schools improve and promote tobacco control. http://www.state.sd.us/news/showDoc.aspx?i=9068

New Funding Opportunities

The National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD) links chronic disease program directors in every US state and territory and provides a national forum focused on efforts to reduce the impact of chronic diseases and their risk factors on states and communities nationwide.

NACDD now provides a web page that consolidates funding opportunities aimed to improve chronic diseases. Open deadline as well as those with deadlines are featured.
