Grants to Reduce Alcohol Abuse

 

Here is a great FUNDING opportunity for local school districts through US Department of Education/Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools, interested in doing comprehensive prevention in secondary schools to reduce and prevent alcohol abuse. Applications are due on February 19, 2008. There is $24,500M to award to approximately to 70 districts around the country and the territories. The average awards for this 3 year effort is around $400,000 per year.

Funding Available for Safe Schools/Healthy Students

 

The Safe Schools/Healthy Students program (SS/HS) supports the implementation and enhancement of integrated, comprehensive community-wide plans that create safe and drug-free schools and promote healthy childhood development.

  • Applications Available: January 24, 2008.

  • Deadline for Transmittal of Applications: March 14, 2008.

  • Eligible Applicants: LEAs, including charter schools that are considered LEAs under State law, and consortia of LEAs.

  • Estimated Available Funds: $72,000,000.

Estimated Range of Awards: Up to $750,000 for an LEA with fewer than 5,000 students; up to $1,500,000 for an LEA with at least 5,000 students but fewer than 35,000 students; and up to $2,250,000 for an LEA with at least 35,000 students.
