Parental Rights Video

The Special Education Programs developed an instructional video titled, Your Child, Your Rights: Parental Rights under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The video was produced to inform parents of children with disabilities of their rights for services available to them under the Administrative Rules of South Dakota and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The parental rights video is not intended to be used as a substitute for the procedural safeguards booklet/pamphlet. However, the Special Education Programs recommends this video be used in conjunction with the procedural safeguards booklet/pamphlet, whenever warranted or desired.

There is no copyright attached to the video, therefore, districts and agencies may make as many copies as they wish. The video may be viewed by the parents at the school or distributed to the parents for their own personal viewing. Agencies may use the video, when appropriate, to inform parents of students with disabilities of their rights.

The Special Education Programs staff hopes this tool will assist district staff and agencies with the all-important role of keeping parents well informed.  If you would like a copy of the video, please contact your regional representative.
