Tracking Migrant Families
The South Dakota
Department of Education Migrant Education Program
utilizes an Access program called MIS 2000, for tracking migrant families.
This software is capable of producing reports that reflect any given
scenario that has been requested by state entities, as well as the federal
government. This program is technically supported by Management Services
for Education Data (MS/EdD), located in Little Rock, Arkansas.
The key to the system is accurate reporting to
the state office by completion of a form called a Certificate of
Eligibility (COE). This form contains all pertinent information on a
family that qualifies as a migrant worker. The COE is completed by a
migrant recruiter and sent to the state office for verification and
encoding.
Some examples of reports derived from information provided on a COE and
produced by the MIS 2000 tracking system are as follows:
