Common Core Update: PD series starts fall 2011
The department will launch a three-year professional development series designed to train teachers on the new Common Core standards next fall. South Dakota is gearing up for full implementation and testing on the Common Core standards in 2014-15.
Students getting more writing practice
Use of the online literacy program WriteToLearn jumped from 126,000 essay submissions this fall to 259,000 during the winter testing window.

Teachers are needed for the Dakota STEP Reading, Mathematics and Science Data Review and Bias and Content Work Groups. Consider nominating one or more of your teachers for this important work.

School districts that provide transportation are invited to be part of a national stop arm violation count survey. South Dakota has chosen April 12 as the day to complete the survey in our state.
