South Dakota School Wellness Policy Summit scheduled for June 6
Studies show that healthy eating and adequate physical activity improve studentsí academic performance. A Wellness Policy Summit will be held June 6 in Chamberlain. Registration is required, and lunch and mileage will be paid for a team of up to three people from each district. One of the members must be an administrator or school board member. Board of Education to meet May 20 in Rapid City
The South Dakota Board of Education has a regularly scheduled meeting on the calendar for Monday, May 20, at Western Dakota Tech in Rapid City. More details, including a complete agenda, will be posted on the Board of Education website as the meeting date draws closer.

Remedial coursework available at no cost to students; webinar May 8

Online remedial coursework will be available at no cost to eligible high school seniors who complete the program during the 2013-14 school year timeframes. This coursework will allow students who have not met South Dakota Board of Regents and South Dakota Technical Institutes* ACT benchmarks for college readiness in math, English, and reading to complete remedial coursework while still in high school.

Students must register through their local school district using the South Dakota Virtual School. Registration for these courses will begin on July 1 and will remain open throughout the 2013-14 school year. Students will be reimbursed for the cost of the coursework upon completion of the program.

An informational webinar about the remedial coursework program and changes for the 2013-14 school year will be held on May 8, at 10 a.m. CDT. Registration is not required for the webinar. Please join as you are able using the following access information:
