The South Dakota Department of Education has launched a blog. The latest entry, discussing dual credit, is by Gov. Dennis Daugaard.

South Dakota ACT scores remain steady, above national average
South Dakota’s ACT scores continue to be above the national average, even while an estimated 78 percent of the 2014 graduating class participated in the exam.

Fall Assessment Roadshow scheduled

These one-day workshops will provide all public school districts and participating non-public schools with the information needed to plan for administering all required assessments in the 2014-15 school year.

PD schedule for administrators now available

The South Dakota Department of Education will sponsor a series of professional learning opportunities for administrators throughout the 2014-15 school year, focused on implementation of teacher and principal effectiveness systems. These trainings will also equip administrators to provide guidance and set timelines and structures for the SLO process.

New policy in place regarding fundraisers that involve food

The new Smart Snacks regulation from the U.S. Department of Agriculture requires each state to set a policy related to fundraisers that involve food. South Dakota’s policy has been shared with food service directors.

Education Data Governance Group to meet in October

The South Dakota EDGG began meeting regularly in April. Its next meeting is scheduled for October. This group helps inform policies and decisions regarding education data entry, use, analysis and security.

Updated data available in SDMyLife

Students logging into SDMyLife this fall will have access to the latest career demand and wage data. These data reflect the recently updated 2012-2022 South Dakota Employment Projections provided by the Department of Labor & Regulation.
