SD teachers needed for Smarter Balanced development activities

The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium is recruiting teachers to participate in the following activities, to be scheduled over coming months. Please encourage teachers to apply. Up to 78 teachers from South Dakota can be selected. Meeting locations and times will be determined once participants are selected from across the consortium.

  • Annotating Student Work (ELA): fully virtual, March
  • Mathematics Item Review and Item Authoring: in-person, April 17–20
  • Mathematics Item Review: in-person, July 24-28
  • ELA Item Review and Item Authoring: in-person, 5 days in June
  • ELA Item Review: in-person, October
  • Range Finding: in-person, September
  • Data Review: 4-5 day in-person meeting, followed by remote completion of the remaining assignment, if necessary, during December
  • Item Mapping and Digital Library Connections Playlists: 3-5 day in-person meeting in August

Educators must be working in the public school system and certified in English language arts, math or special education. There are also a small number of openings for teachers certified in social science.

The application deadline is Feb. 17. Educators selected to participate will be notified beginning in early March.

Airfare, hotel and meal expenses will be covered and reimbursed. Substitute pay would also be available for activities scheduled during the school year.
