State Library e-resources offer more than ever

The South Dakota State Library announces access to a suite of Ebsco databases at no charge to all South Dakota schools. This includes general and scholarly e-resources, such as Academic Search Premier, and subject-specific e-resources including health and business. Ebsco’s new Explora is designed for K-12 student and educator research.

In addition, ProQuest has added “US Major Dailies” to its “Current news” section, providing access to the Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Washington Post from 1980-present. ProQuest also contains ProQuest Discovery and Research Library databases, which offer full-text coverage of general, scholarly and trade publications. Within ProQuest, users can search one, two or all three of these databases simultaneously.

In other news, World Book has added the Activity Corner, which offers thousands of activities for all ages with instructions, photographs, illustrations and more. Each activity also includes a list of materials for easy reference. Activities can be printed, e-mailed or saved in their entirety to users’ computers.

The new “puzzle map” features the full list of databases, and here is a handy chart summarizing recent database updates.
