Across the country, 56 schools are creating ornaments to accompany the National Christmas Tree in Washington D.C. This year, students from several of Lisa Dresch’s art classes at Roosevelt High School in Sioux Falls painted ornaments to represent South Dakota.

Unpacked math and ELA standards now available
Unpacked, or disaggregated, math and English language arts content standards are now available on the Department of Education’s website. The templates for the unpacked standards are arranged by cluster/anchor standard and include the achievement level descriptors along with other key information.

US Dept. of Education Logo English Learner Program Boot Camp starts in January

The English Learner Program Boot Camp is a webinar series that will cover 15 topics related to the education of ELs in South Dakota. The webinar series is scheduled for January through April 2019. Each webinar session will be about one hour in length with time for questions after each session.

Special Education Conference presenter proposals due Dec. 1

The 2019 South Dakota Special Education Conference is scheduled for March 19-20 in Deadwood. Session proposals are currently being sought. Proposals are due Dec. 1, and you will be notified by Dec. 30 on the status of your proposal.

2018 Data Digest 2018 School Library Data Digest available

The 2018 School Library Data Digest is now available, with information about services, electronic resources, digital access, circulation, programming and more at school libraries across South Dakota. The School Library Data Digest is a compilation of data gathered via the annual school library survey distributed by the State Library to school districts every spring.

Bringing students to Pierre this winter to observe the state legislature? Discover hands-on history at the Cultural Heritage Center, home of the Museum of the South Dakota State Historical Society. With a museum visit, students can gain insight into the state history that informs the legislature’s work.
