Student Achievement and College Readiness
Dakota STEP Assessment
The Dakota STEP test measures student progress on South
Dakota’s content standards in reading and math. Students
in grades 3-8 and 11 complete the test. The statewide
assessment and resulting Report Card is required under
the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). See page 34 for an
overview of schools and districts making adequate yearly
progress under NCLB.
