School and Personnel
Schools and AYP
Each year, schools and districts are required to make
adequate yearly progress (AYP) under the No Child Left
Behind Act. In order to make AYP, they must meet certain
annual targets for proficiency on the Dakota STEP in
both reading and math. If a school or district does not
make AYP in either area for one year, it is considered
on alert. If a school or district does not make AYP for
two consecutive years in either area, it is considered
in improvement and must take certain steps to improve.
There are varying levels of improvement (eg., Level 1,
Level 2, etc.).
